Screech Owl

The screech owl is one of the smallest owls at 9″ in length.  It is relatively common around my home in North Carolina and does not migrate.

high-key cardinal

I sort of like this high-key, minimalistic, type of photo.  Maybe a bit of oriental simplicity?  Diffusion was added in the post processing to soften up the subject.

Flying Tiger

The Great Horned Owl is fearless and will attack and kill skunks, porcupines, and even small coyotes.  It has excellent hearing and can hear a mouse moving under 12 inches of snow.  It’s flight is totally silent due to ragged wing feathers that are ruffled on the ends.  Flying Tiger is a well chosen nickname for this nocturnal hunter.
